Where To Buy A Lamborghini Countach

Perhaps one of the most iconic of all cars ever made, the Lamborghini Countach is rapidly becoming an all-time classic. Finding a Lamborghini Countach for sale is becoming increasingly difficult as they are rapidly becoming an excellent investment car.

Wild styling made the Countach every boy's poster car, with the huge rear wing, scissor doors, vents and spoilers in abundance and probably the widest rear wheels on any car of that era.

How Much is a Lamborghini Countach?

As with most cars, the price of a Lamborghini Countach depends on a number of factors.

These include:

  • The age of the Countach, although if kept in good condition this is a minor factor.
  • The condition of the car and the service history.
  • The exact model of the Lamborghini Countach.
  • The colour - exterior and interior, plus any added mods or gadgets.
  • The mileage and number of owners.

AutoCoinCars currently has a Lamborghini Countach for sale for £550,000.

LP500 Prototype

The LP500 prototype is probably the purest of Gandini’s designs – and represents a beautiful mix of edge and flow. designed to accommodate its 5.0-litre V12 engine, it was launched in Geneva in 1971 – but was compromised practically for the lack of those trademark shoulder-mounted gapes on later editions.

The almost feminine, sculptural quality of the rear three quarters contrasts sharply with the more brutal later editions too. Like many concepts, it was never going to work out there on the hot roads of Italy.

LP400

The first production Countach, launched in 1974, was a subtle evolution from the prototype – but one that retained a majority of the purity of flow – edged with the shoulder scoops and slightly altered panel geometry. The distinctive louvred engine cowlings, light clusters and snoop-nosed stances that are visible today in all production Lambos are present for the first time.

LP400S

In 1978, with less than 200 Countachs on the roads, an upgraded S model was introduced, with slightly less horsepower, a more macho, aggressive stance was created by fatter Pirellis, fibreglass arches an optional rear wing. There were various transitional models where ride height, alloy configuration, engine tweaks and interior styling details were introduced.

LP500S & 5000QV

This is the first incarnation of the full-blown early-mid eighties version of the Countach that set every boy's heart a-flutter. Now the V12 was bored to 5.2 litres – and each of the cylinders given four valves. The upgraded engine meant that a new lump and bumps were created that put paid to any rear visibility at all – but body styling louvres, shades and scalps made this the quintessential monster of the1980s.

Countach 25 Anniversary

This was a step too far really with the Countach. Influenced by Ferrari’s competitor in the Testarossa, there were side-skirts, louvres and restyled rear lights that watered down the brutality – and therefore the Countach’s essence. You can see the evolution of the Countach into its successor the Diablo.

Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S for sale

To celebrate the company's 25th anniversary, Lamborghini released an updated and restyled version of its iconic Countach.

Unveiled at the 1988 Italian Grand Prix at Monza and would become the most memorable and widely recognised Countach ever created, Fondly remembered by enthusiasts for not only its signature style but also the welcome updates that it brought to the 15-year-old Countach. The Countach is a styling icon of the 1980s, and it still commands attention and respect wherever it travels today.

Horacio Pagani was given the job of updating the iconic Gandini-penned bodywork. He tweaked the nose and redesigned the air intakes to more effectively channel air to the Girling ventilated front disc brakes.

Simultaneously the rear bumper also received styling changes. Other changes were made to the body air intakes, located just behind the door, which received thicker body colour stakes, and to the two-piece forged alloy wheels.

In total he made almost 500 subtle changes over its predecessor, the 5000 QV, the new Countach retained the same striking visual panache and incredible performance that Lamborghini's customers had come to know and worship.
