Are you looking to buy an Audi R8 in the UK?
The Audi R8 has been one of the most popular Audi models for years now!
It’s understandable why, they’re fast, they’re stylish and the Audi brand has a great reputation too.
So how do the various models of the Audi R8 compare over the past 10 years?
We’ll be examining the various models from over the years to help you decide which Audi R8 model is right for you.
Let’s start with the old 2007-2012 Audi R8 V8!
Audi may have been late in comparison to other premium motor brands to jump onto the supercar bandwagon but when they brought out the R8 V8 they were serious about joining the party!
The 420hp is astonishing, mix that in with the 6-speed manual transmission and you have something that is truly incredible to drive. This roar horsepower gave the Audi great speed.
The build and design accompanying this also gave it great handling. The reliable V8 engine makes this reliable for everyday driving as well as a little bit of fun sometimes too.
This small, lightweight, but powerful coupe should be a serious contender for anyone looking at the Audi R8’s.
A year later and we see the release of the Audi R8 V10 (2008-2012) come onto the market.
The R8 V10 was launched thanks to the incredible success of the V8.
By comparison to the previous model, the V10 didn’t actually have too many updates to the designs and features.
The main change was that the power and performance of the V10 was increased.
The new model now had 525hp which gave it an impressive time of 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 191mph!
If you like the R8 V8 but want a little more oomph in it then the V10 is for you!
In 2012 Audi thought the V10 could do with an upgrade. So, the new Audi R8 V10 (2012-2015) was born!
Now, we say they thought it could do with an upgrade, but when you really look into the nitty-gritty of the specifications, the power and the changes to the actual mechanics itself are rather small.
The biggest change came in the appearance and design of the V10.
The new side blades on the car made from carbon fibre gave it a lighter body and helped reduce drag. The new 0-62mph improved by 0.2 seconds on its predecessor.
The interior was kept black and sleek to give it that true classy, chic feel.
In comparison to Audi’s market competition, the R8 was a bargain, and it still offered a stunning design, comfort, power and loads of fun.
During the same years, the V8 also got a facelift. In came the new Audi R8 V8 (2012-2015).
While it’s still the V8 engine under the hood, engineers managed to improve the horsepower by 10.
Simple features such as the headlights and taillights received an upgrade, as well as some big side scoops to help improve the design and functionality of cooling the brakes.
The interior also received a huge upgrade in quality to improve the comfort for drivers and passengers in the R8.
2015-2018 brings in one of Audi’s most popular choices the Audi R8.
After multiple successes with the V8’s and V10’s Audi made a bold move to re-release they’re very first Audi R8 but with a major upgrade…
Audi no longer wanted the V8 engine and manual transmissions, so in came to their new 7-speed S Tronic which consists of a dual-clutch system with two sub-transmissions. The “S” gives the gearbox both the standard manual drive characteristics as well as the sporty advantages of an automatic.
The sleek upgraded body of the new R8 gave the Audi original supercar a modern look worthy of the engine inside it. The all-new single-frame grill and side scoops give the engine and brakes increased airflow for improved cooling.
Breaking the norm! The Audi R8 V10 RWS (Rear Wheel Series) stormed the market in 2017 and is continuing to do so.
Audi made the bold move to change from the previous R8, V8 and V10 models to become a rear-wheel-drive car as opposed to an all-wheel.
This choice made Audi truly gain respect within the competition of supercars as some argued that all supercars should be rear-wheel drive.
Whilst Audi changed the mechanics, the actual bodywork isn’t too dissimilar to the original R8. The mixture of matt and gloss features gave a bold yet elegant look to the new RWS.
The interior was practically the same as its mid-engine precursors as well.
The other important change to note in this new model is that Audi added a new, special drift feature function, making it their most exciting model yet!
Last but not least! The Audi R8 Coupe (2018-Present)
While it says 2018-present this is because that’s when the Audi designs released, the car itself has only been on sale since 2019. The new look of the R8 coupe was much more like that of the RS5 and other RS models.
The new and improved V10 engine under the hood packs a whopping 570hp in comparison to the previous V10 engine at 540hp.
This masterpiece of a car from Audi may be the most recent but due to the excellent price, power and style we can say for certain that it is our current favourite Audi for sale right now.
